Perinatal/Maternal Mental Health

JL Counseling is certified by Postpartum Support International to provide perinatal and reproductive mental health services for moms, birthing people, their partners, and families that are affected by perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). Perinatal mental health is defined as psychological problems occurring before, during, and after pregnancy up to the first year following the birth of a child. In therapy you will learn ways to develop your identity as an individual and a parent, as well as work to increase your social supports and reduce any intrusive thoughts that may be occurring. Some issues addressed include the following but are not limited to:

  • Perinatal/Postpartum Depression

  • Perinatal/Postpartum Anxiety

  • Perinatal/Postpartum PTSD

  • Birth Trauma

  • Fertility Challenges

  • Pregnancy Loss/Spontaneous Miscarriage

  • Termination for Medical Reasons (TFMR)

  • Elective abortion

  • Stillbirth

  • Postpartum Psychosis*

  • Perinatal/Postpartum OCD

  • Post-Adoption Depression Syndrome

  • Adjusting to parenthood

  • NICU parents

  • LGBTQ+ parents

  • Gestational Carriers (Surrogate)

*Post-hospitalization follow up appts ONLY. Postpartum Psychosis is considered to be a medical emergency and requires immediate hospitalization to ensure the safety of patient and infant/children.
