Perinatal/Maternal Mental Health

JL Counseling is certified by Postpartum Support International to provide perinatal mental health services for women, their partners, and their families that are affected by perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). Perinatal mental health is defined as psychological problems occurring during pregnancy and/or in the first year following the birth of a child. In therapy you will learn ways to develop your identity as an individual and a parent, as well as work to increase your social supports and reduce any intrusive thoughts that may be occurring. Some issues addressed include the following but are not limited to:

  • Perinatal/Postpartum Depression

  • Perinatal/Postpartum Anxiety

  • Perinatal/Postpartum PTSD

  • Birth Trauma

  • Pregnancy Loss/Spontaneous Miscarriage

  • Abortion

  • Stillbirth

  • Postpartum Psychosis*

  • Perinatal/Postpartum OCD

  • Adoption

  • Adjusting to parenthood

  • NICU parents

*Post-hospitalization follow up appts ONLY. Postpartum Psychosis is considered to be a medical emergency and requires immediate hospitalization to ensure the safety of patient and infant/children.
