About Me
I am more than just a licensed professional counselor. I am a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend, etc. I use my personal experiences as well as clinical knowledge and wisdom gained through professional training to help my clients become the best version of themselves.
I offer a variety of services including: individual, group, teletherapy, couples, and family therapy. I have experience dealing with various topics, some of which are listed below. One thing I appreciate about this profession is that I am constantly learning from my clients as well, which in turn helps me to continue the cycle of helping others. Besides Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I will also use a variety of other counseling approaches and techniques based on the needs of the individual(s) including trauma-focused therapy which can be beneficial for those who have experienced domestic violence, a traumatic pregnancy or any other recent or past traumatic event.
I earned my bachelors degree in Psychology and my masters degree in Counseling and Guidance from Louisiana Tech University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) approved by the Louisiana LPC Board of Examiners, providing clinical supervision for provisional licensed professional counselors seeking licensure in the state of Louisiana. I am licensed as a LPC with the Georgia Composite Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists. I am also a National Certified Counselor (NCC) with the National Board for Certified Counselors. I have a graduate certificate in Dynamics of Domestic Family Violence and I have volunteered with local domestic violence shelters to bring awareness to our communities since 2007.
I am a perinatal mental health certified (PMH-C) clinician through Postpartum Support International. In 2018, I became the first Louisiana State Ambassador for 2020 Mom a non-profit organization based in California that works to bridge the gap between medical providers and mothers whom are dealing with maternal mental health issues. I am also a volunteer postpartum support coordinator for north Louisiana for Postpartum Support International.
I was recently appointed as a Gratis Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at LSU Health in Shreveport.
Thank you for choosing JL Counseling for all of your counseling needs and I am looking forward to collaborating with you to renew your life from the inside out!
